FileRatings.com's Stand Against Spyware and Adware
We believe our users deserve a clean download environment in which they can download the files they like without worrying about spyware, adware or other malicious files. That's why we work hard to make sure the files listed on FileRatings.com are clean and safe.
To confirm that programs are safe, we check them with several security tools. We only list those programs that come clean on all of our tests.
Safe to Download – Safe to Trust
Each product listed on FileRatings.com charts is examined manually, using various security measures (Microsoft Windows Defender, among others). In some cases we also look at forums and user comments around the web, to locate possible threats on “brand new” programs.
Worth the extra effort
Even though we can't be responsible for applications from third parties, we want our users to know that we are taking great care in scanning and filtering the products listed on the FileRatings.com charts. From our point of view, the battle against evil on the internet is being fought one file at a time.
Does this mean FileRating.com is 100% spyware and adware free, 365 days a year?
We invest a lot of effort into detecting and weeding out problematic files, but we cannot guarantee full-proof results. For example, sometimes a “clean” program becomes spyware on the next version update. And sometimes bundled adware is too new to register anywhere on the web or in our scan results. We think the best strategy is to run the latest anti Spyware applications (many of the best ones are free for home use and can be found on our Security tab), and be cautious. That’s what we do.
Reporting problems
If you’ve found a download you think includes spyware, adware, or anything else undesirable, please let us know so we can investigate. Use the online form to submit the name and URL of the program, and as much detail as possible about symptoms (especially scan results from any anti-spyware that detected it). We’ll investigate.
